Exotics

Introduction

It is normal behaviour for many of our exotic pets to hide illness for as long as they can which means that by the time they do look ill, they are often in urgent need of treatment. This is why it is so important to make sure they are housed and fed to the best of our ability as, by doing so, many causes of illness are easily preventable and avoidable.  The aim of the following notes is to offer guidance on the needs of several commonly kept species including enclosures, diet, common problems and reasons to take an animal to a vet. A veterinary health check are recommended for all new animals as well as an annual check-up for most species; these are opportunities to physically check animals and flag up any issues.
